So I'm working on writing a guide which includes information on all the quests. From what I've observed so far, the chocolate, space, and weapons quests all have "set," predictable rewards (higher than retail value, but within a limit).

Assuming one knows the retail value of a particular item being requested, he can decide whether or not it would be feasible to buy the item from usershops and still receive a positive return. (This is something I'd like to cover in-depth in the guide, which is why I bring it up.)

... Which most of you probably know anyway, but still.

So! I haven't yet done enough of the Collector Quests to really discover the average rate of positive return--how often it is "worth it" to actually complete one of the quests when the items wanted are not in the scrap shop. I intend to continue completing the quests to further my own research on it, but I was wondering what the community thought about these quests as well.

Do you often accept or complete the Collector Quests? When you do, is the returned amount of IP a positive amount compared to the IP spent on the quest?
Would you consider it "worth it" to consistently participate in Collector Quests?

I find I don't make a profit, and if I do, it's very small and not worth the effort.

Typically I only complete the quest if I have two or three of the items required.

Also depends on the three items involved. If you're asked to get more expensive items like an uncommon book or a token, then the return you get is quite a bit higher. Profit for me is usually in the range of 1.5x IP spent. To me that's worth it for 30 seconds work.

A budget tells us what we can't afford, but it doesn't keep us from buying it.

Sorry for the double post, but to prove my point;

Collector quest was find a Bronze Token, Orange Ice Cube, and Orange Beanie. Everyone has beanie's because they're a semi-common reward from space/weapon quest. I found a 200 IP Bronze Token on Shop Searcher ( Thank you whoever sold it that cheap unknowingly smile_happy.gif ) and spent the 4.2k at the scrap shop for the Ice cube.

"You handed over the requested items...
You received 20,545 iP"

Spent 4.4k total. So I quadrupled my investment in the quest!
I think it's always worth it though, even if you only make a thousand or two.

Interestingly enough, I just had a quest requesting the same items (Bronze Token, Orange Ice Cube, Orange Beanie) and with the same reward.

Wasn't lucky enough to get that deal on the bronze token, but still got a small return from completing the quest.

But this means that my theory that the items are random each time you begin a quest is possibly incorrect. I'll have to do another quest in a half hour and see what happens with that.

Anyway, thanks again for the inputs!

The requested items/reward are always the same on the same day.

I think the same 3 items are asked for each day, or the collector only asks for items available in the scrap shop. I /think/ it is one of those xD

Yeah, as a rule, it will ask for items in the scrap shop. And since the items it asks for is the same throughout the day, at some point the scrap shop might be sold out and you will need to get the items elsewhere if you want to complete (profit not guaranteed). If there is nothing for sale at the scrap shop at the beginning of the day, I guess it just asks for something random?

I believe the idea about the quest asking for random items when there's nothing in the scrap shop is true because I remember seeing another thread about it asking for a currently inactive item.

Based on that theory couldn't you rig the collector quest for the next day fairly simply? I mean you just find three items that are relatively expensive and that you have 10+ of each of, sell 1/1/1 to the scrap shop and buy off everything else there, on a day where there are only a few items left to begin with.

You've basically just chosen what the collector quest will be for the following day.
