So... I don't get this whole black Friday deal having to be RIGHT AFTER Thanksgiving! "I'm thankful for everything I have!!! -- NOT."

(I live in the U.S.A. .. so I don't know if this is different for others)

THANK YOU

I feel the same way! The day after we celebrate everything we already have, we trample others for a discount on more material goods, for the most part. It’s a little contradicting, but there’s a reason why this happens. I remember reading an article on it before, but it slipped my mind.

I heard Black Friday all started because a lot of businesses gave their employees off that whole weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday and people just used that free time to start shopping and preparing for the upcoming Christmas holiday. That coupled with sales and advertising for “good deals” on that specific day then turned it all into what it is now.

So really, the two aren’t exactly meant to be related events. But it is pretty ironic that it’s so dramatically hypocritical. I use to go Black Friday shopping, but people are exhaustingly insufferable on that day and I can’t deal with it. Easier to stay home in your jammies, watch a movie, and drink some nice Apple Cider. Shop online with reputable stores and you can usually find just as good, if not better, deals and savings!

I've always wondered why it's called Black Friday? Like mourning or something...

@Lokki

I think the orgin of the term is debated, but I believe the most commonly accepted explanation now has to do with business profits!

Black Friday is the day when retailers finally begin to turn a profit for the year. In accounting terms, operating at a loss (losing money) is called being “in the red" because accountants traditionally used red ink to show negative amounts (losses). Positive amounts (profits) were usually shown in black ink. Thus, being “in the black" is a good thing because it means stores are operating at a profit (making money). - Source

@Nati Oh, that's so obvious - and I never thought of it! Makes perfect sense now! Thank you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving you and yours. smile_heart.gif

Black Friday is okay. I agree that it is sort of a contradiction. Sale day? Fine, but not right after Thanksgiving. The worst part is retailers beginning to open earlier and force their employees to work on Thanksgiving itself.

Imma make a deal with the bad wolf so the bad wolf don't bite no more ~
