english isn't the only language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there are many languages that people speak (like me!!!! i speak spanish sorta!), and there's no reason why this should be an english-only site. @IcePets if yall put in the terms and conditions that discrimination isnt tolerated then why are yall makin ppl speak english besides in private? this is a type of discrimination within itself. forcing ppl to repress their native language can come off as super racist. what are you going to do about this? why can't we speak other languages?

I'm curious how this would be considered discrimination? @riddler

Everywhere you post publicly on IcePets is moderated so that everyone can enjoy the environment without others attacking, degrading, or otherwise being hostile towards you (or breaking the rules in any way). If you're speaking in Spanish (albeit a more common language) or any other language, the moderators may or may not be able to moderate your posts. The moderators are fluent in English and therefore that's what they're able to moderate in.

I'm sure you'd be able to make a thread somewhere in Chit-Chat and ask if any Spanish-speaking people would like to chat via PMs if you need help with anything or want to make friends.

Overall, I strongly disagree with you. I understand the want to speak Spanish on the boards, but I'd also rather have moderators be able to moderate properly and fairly for everyone.

While I agree people should be able to speak whichever language they are comfortable with, but I have to agree with Read.

But maybe a mod who does speak other languages could help out with moderating boards in other languages in the future.

Hello, Eddie! smile_happy.gif

Thank you very much for bringing this concern to our attention. We always take the feedback we get from our userbase very seriously! We would like to assure you that our decision to keep public posts English-only was not made in an attempt to exclude anyone. In fact, it was the exact opposite!

Here on Icepets we find that our forums tend to stay active for long periods of time. So instead of having a bunch of short, fast moving threads we have fewer threads that are more in-depth and can hold an open conversation for up to a few weeks at a time. Due to this set up, we've found that our userbase only posts when they feel as if they have something they can contribute to the conversation. In order to do this, having our entire userbase speaking one language is our best current option of keeping all conversations inclusive of all of our members.

At this point in time, our site is only offered in the English language. Due to this, not only is our userbase primarily English-speaking but we're also lucky enough that even our users who do not speak English as their first language are proficient enough in order to successfully navigate the site and interact with other members in an enjoyable manner.

What this all really comes down to is the fact that we're too small of a site right now to offer multiple language options. We don't have the resources that would be necessary in order to translate, recode, and then continually moderate a multilingual site. As we grow and our userbase expands, this is definitely something we will be looking more into to make sure we're providing the best inclusive experience we can for our userbase!

I'd like to put some opinion on this thread.@riddler

I disagree with the notion of a multilingual site due to who says your not going to use your native language to discriminate others back talk to others who are not native in that language. All the while English is a world wide language that everyone understands yes at various levels but still enough knowledge to get by.

I also agree it would not hurt to have the ability to publically speak a native language but even as you said you Sorta know Spanish. With the inability or confidently say you fluently speak Spanish, bolds a question whats the purpose of this thread if you yourself Sorta speaks Spanish.

Furthermore some moderators I'm not sure only speak English-language.

Yes it's very hard when this type of topic comes up when there are numerous probabilities but try and think of the many ways other sites and people have created web sites.

I myself know 4 languages yes not all fluently as I hope for but enough to go by. They are French, Spanish, German, and English.
I have no trouble with these 4 languages yet I'd perfer to speak english due to its the only language in the world that nearly everyone know and I must repeat at various levels.

Yes I understand your concern and or wanting something done due to native languages but somethings are actually more helpful then what it looks like.

@Nati

I have a suggestion to add to this.

I play KoA and on that game (phone/tablet game) there are people from all across the world on it. So we have chinese and russian and turkish, europeans etc etc

What that game has is a little 'translation' button at the end of the chat messages, so yeah its not quite a forum board, but you know what I mean. And players click this 'translate' button and it translates the text into the language of the player on the game. So for me it translates Chinese into English. As an example.

I don't actually know if such a thing is possible on here cause yeah this is forum boards and not like a chat/messenger-y thing.

And KoA translator also isn't the exact best because there are some languages that don't fully translate (mostly turkish) and also swear words do come through.

You can't swear in English on that game but you can swear in German or French and just translate it. Its a bit stupid.
