I think maybe you're assuming that everyone sees the same distinction between the two words you do, when not everyone is.
Personally, I call hoarding collecting and collecting hoarding - it's all the same to me.
I mean, I suppose perhaps there is a difference if you're say collecting ONE of something (like I'm trying to get one of each MP and SJ - so I never really say I'm collecting or hoarding MPs/SJs, because I'm just looking at getting one of each for my gallery).
As for the other items I DO collect/hoard - they're just items I really like, and want to keep. I have no number goals in mind for any other than my fondues (though, even if I ever manage to get to the 500 of each type, I won't stop collecting/hoarding them
), so I simply snag them when I see them in shops or in the scrap shop or if someone is selling the items I like for a good price.
Then there are the really expensive items - for example cuddly plushies. I collect them, and plan to get as many as I can, in other words, I plan to hoard the ones I CAN get, but as they are so expensive, I am aiming for at least one of each - so unlike the MPs/SJs, I do want more than one of each, but they're too expensive for me to say, yeah I want 500 of each one kind of thing.
The items I am collecting/hoarding are all items I intend to get as many of as I can, but some of them are really expensive and if I can only afford say, five, I still consider that hoarding because I am spending a lot of ip to GET those items to stick in my gallery specifically just to have them. Does that make sense?
