Plot Summary:
Four unlikeliest of friends find themselves bound together by a common goal – the rescue of Jacob of the Frozen Emporium. Using their varied skills, the heroes Cuddles McFluffakins, Arella, Vicious and Mizukii work together to clear a way into the mine where Jacob was last seen. Despite them all having their own agendas, they successfully enter the mine and rescue Jacob, though it is not quite what they expect. What they discover in the mine will both astound them, and find them in a spot of trouble. Pulling together as a group, they overcome all odds and manage to escape, Jacob in tow. As their experience brings them closer together, they learn more about each other and learn more about themselves along the way, while forming long-lasting friendships and having an adventure they'll never forget.

Characters Involved:
Cuddles McFluffakins played by Kashmir
Arella played by Sneasel
Vicious played by Nyssa
Mizukii played by oOKiraraOo
Jacob the Shop Owner, NPC

Cuddles McFluffakins the Love Ridix
Cuddles was a gentlemen through and through. His charming accent could get him almost anywhere and his charisma let him win the hearts of many. With ever new person he met, he offered his signature item, a single red rose, for them to remember him by. He was also an expert swordsman, loving to sword fight in several various forms.

Arella the Angelic Jakrit
Arella is a small, kind Angelic Jakrit whose recent fall from heaven has left her lost and alone. She is young and in love, and constantly searching the Earth for her significant other. She is sent a letter from Heaven asking her to aid in the rescue of Jacob, and Arella sees this as a chance to redeem herself and return to the place of angels. In accepting the task, however, she finds friends in the strangest of places, and finds peace with who she is.

Vicious the Evil Ridix
Vicious is a proud, cunning Evil Ridix whose best friend is his Evil Penguin Plushie named Penguin that he always drags around. He grew up on the streets with a cardboard box as a house and uncertainty when his next meal would be. Luckily he eventually found a good home, but his past has left him with some scars that would not make this rescue mission a breeze for him. Even though he enters the the cave with a slightly different, more money oriented mission from everyone else, with his friend Penguin as his (imaginary) voice of reason, things eventually work out, making a few friends in the process.

Mizukii the Space Xephyr
Mizukii was never made for staying in one place for long. Ever since she can remember she’s spent her time traveling the lands, always ready to see what else there is out in the world. Moving from place to place, she’s never had any real family or friends, so when an opportunity presents itself, she’s eager to make new friends and let her playful nature shine.

Mizukii’s eyes narrowed while trying to focus on something in the distance. She could barely make it out, but she thought it might be some kind of town. She hoped it was.

She’d left the safety of the Knollo Woods behind her, venturing into the icy tundra of the north. She knew it’d be a risky hike, but she was a confident tracker, and knew she’d be able to make it without too much trouble. Unfortunately, shortly after she’d made it into the snowy mountains a storm began, making her journey more troubling.

Shaking the freshly fallen snow from her coat she continued north. Nearly thirty minutes had passed, and she could finally make out the outline of buildings that clearly conveyed a town was close.

Elated she quickened her pace, content to stop at the first shop she found for food and shelter from the cold. She was disappointed to see the first door she came upon had a large ‘Closed’ sign hanging in the window. I didn’t need any ice cubes anyway. Not to be discouraged she quickly made her way to the next.

The jingle of the bell prompted a greeting from the shopkeeper. “Good afternoon miss.”

Mizukii nodded politely and grabbed a few things from the shelves. She didn’t want to be rude, but she was starving. “I’ll take all this please.”

Her plan had been to find a nice quiet place to eat her meal in peace and be on her way, but a commotion outside distracted her. Tossing a few grapes in her mouth she made her way over to the gathering crowd and listened to the murmurs.

Horrible isn’t it.

Can’t believe he went in alone.

I hope they’re able to find him.

A booming voice interrupted her eavesdropping. “Everyone, everyone please calm down!” Mizukii couldn’t see him, but his voice carried throughout the streets with ease. “We have every intention of finding Jacob, and my staff is currently assembling a team together as we speak to rescue him.”

A rescue mission! That’s my kind of gig. Before she could make her way to the front of the line an impatient angel jakrit knocked her down and zoomed past. “Sorry.” She called over her shoulder. “I’m late!”

Mizukii rolled her eyes and got up. Silly white rabbit. Carefully making her way to the front of the crowd, she prepared to offer her services.

Arella looked down again at the letter in her hand. She still had no idea who sent it – it was not postmarked, there was no return address and no name at the bottom. Hand written in the most cursive, beautiful script she had ever seen, it was a call for help. Perhaps this was her opportunity to redeem herself after her fall from above. She hadn’t decided yet that she wanted to go back, but a call for help should be answered nonetheless. After all, isn’t that what an Angel ought to do? She re-read the short letter for the umpteenth time, though no further meaning could be ascertained;

Your assistance is required in the search of a missing person, last known heading into the mines. We fear he is in danger and we ask you do what you can to help. Should help come to late for him in this world, please guide him into the next. Help can be found if you need it. Bon voyage.

She glanced up from the note and found herself looking down on the town of Glacies from the cold slopes of the mountains. She still didn’t know how this happened – travelling from one place to the next. She would just be in one place, and then be somewhere else – handy at times, and completely infuriating at others. She shivered, despite being unable to feel the cold any longer. The flurry of snowflakes still brought back the memories of how it would feel if she were cold, and her body reacted accordingly. Safely tucking the letter into her fur, she ran down one of the many mountain paths and headed into town. She may not feel hunger or the cold, but she had no doubt that this missing person definitely would. And she had no supplies.

Time was of the essence if this person were to survive, so she quickly rushed through the streets of Glacies, filling a backpack with everything she could think of – water, food, a warm blanket and clean clothes. She was so busy checking off the list of things in her head, that she wasn’t concentrating on what was around her, and next thing she bumped into somebody, causing them both to fall backwards and land on their rears. A small revelation in itself to her that she was even able to bump into things – she’d just assumed til that point she would simply pass through. Embarassed, she glanced up and came eye-to-eye with the most beautiful Xephyr she has ever seen. The stars glistening on her coat cought Arella’s eye and she almost lost herself in them. “Sorry”, she mumbled, as she got up, before turning away. “I’m late!”

The shuffling of footsteps could be heard lightly in the distance. Cuddles had his sword drawn, holding it in one hand as he circled his enemy, watching it closely. His eyes narrowed as his tail did a snake like dance behind him. He unexpectedly lunged forward, yelling to his enemy with a thick, Spanish accent, En Garde! His sword swirled around in several fluid motions before he stopped, then chuckled, placing his hands on his hips. Senior Evil Teddybear, you were a worthy opponent. He bowed to the stuffed plush as it stared blankly back at him, as all plushies did, before he heard a knock at his door. Eh? Who could that be? he mumbled to himself, walking towards the front of the house, sliding his sword back into it's hilt that was strapped to his side. He opened the door slowly, peeking through the crack first, then opening it the rest of the way to find a familiar figure on the other side.

Cuddles, you have to help! The figure cried in a panic.

His eyes focused in on the familiar dovu in front of him. It was none other than Gabrielle, the owner of the Snow Jar Igloo from the Snowslide Mountains.

Cuddles, it's Jacob! She cried once more desperately. It was obvious she was shaken quite badly, just by how frantically she was acting.

Gabrielle, here, sit sit! He demanded as he motioned her inside and over to his kitchen table. He placed his hand on her back and rubbed it in an attempt to comfort her. Now tell me madam, tell me, what has happened to your husband Jacob?

Gabrielle sobbed with her head in her hands, gasping between sobs, My husband was *sob sob* in the abandoned mineshafts a-and *sob sob* hasn't come back for days!.

As a kind gesture, Cuddles handed her a handkerchief which she promptly took and wiped the tears from her eyes.

Cuddles, please go find my husband! I don't know anyone who would be better suited than you to find my him.

Cuddles puffed up, slicking his hair back with his right paw as he smiled. Well senorita... you have the right ridix for the job! He got down in front of her on one knee, taking her hand in his paw and bowing to her. Madam, you have my word, I will not return unless I have your husband with me, safe and sound. Cuddles McFluffakins... is at your service. He kissed the back her hand.

She replied, Oh, thank you Cuddles! I don't know what I would do without you!

He stood, smiling from ear to ear, then seemingly pulled a red rose from nowhere and offered it to her. But first! Cuddles announced, it's tea time! He frolicked off to the sink, picking up a tea kettle from on the counter and began filling it with water.

Gabrielle angerly yelled, CUDDLES! There is no time for that now! Quickly! You MUST go find my husband!

He jumped, dropping the kettle onto the floor and nervously fumbled around to pick it up, making a watery mess everywhere. Y-yes madam! He replied. It's Cuddles McFluffakins to the rescue! His voice cracked at the end and he hesitated for a few moments before setting the kettle down, then he dashed out the door towards Glacies, leaving her setting at his kitchen table alone.

Once he was gone, Gabrielle got up, filled the tea kettle with water, sat it on the stove as she turned the burner on, then plopped back down into the chair with a heavy sigh. I really hope he is able to find my husband she said. But, in the meantime... she said I'm going to enjoy some tea.

With temperatures at its highest for Glacia, most residents were more than happy to spend their days outside. It had been an unusual cold and stormy Spring, with snowstorms and blizzards that had kept residents locked in their homes for days on end. This had made everyone all the more excited for Summer, which has proved to be the far opposite of the previous season so far.

Although not a resident of Glacia, Vicious made the most of these sunny days by hiking just outside of town. The Glacian air was clean and fresh, unlike that of his home, Meteora. During Summers, Vicious always made it a priority to visit Glacia to increase his stamina.

This time, though, there was something different about the trail. The usually ominous looking entrance to the Glacian mines was closed off. Not by signs, but by icy boulders and pebbles. It didn't look good.

"I don't know, Penguin, what do you think?" Vicious stared at his stuffed friend. Although the Evil Penguin Plushie didn't respond, Vicious nodded solemnly, as if it had.

"You're right, the mines are usually open. Judging by the way these rocks look, and the relative freshness of the snow, I'd say this happened no more than a few days ago."

The Evil Ridix shook his paws to shake off most of the snow. His normally shiny red fur was wet and stood up in tufts. The Glacian air may do wonders for his stamina, it did little for his appearance. He groomed himself.

"I forget to bring a comb every single time. You could've reminded me, you know." He shot a look to his plushie.

When his fur was slightly less messy, Vicious sighed and looked at the caved in mine. "Right, so what should we do now?" He lowered his head, as if to hear Penguins answer better.

"Right you are again my friend, maybe someone will pay us if we clear up the cave in. At the very least we'll get mentioned in the newspaper. You'll finally get the recognition you desperately wanted and deserved." Had the plushie been able to, he would've looked at his friend skeptically.

Seeing no other options, Vicious started to dig through the pebbles.

Cuddles hurried towards Glacies but his little legs proved to be no match for the distance he had to travel. He stopped along the path that lead from Snowslide Mountains into town to calculate about how far along he was. Ah, this is going to take a while. He thought to himself, looking up and down the path to see if there were any other pets heading into town.

Above flew a zabeu which Cuddles quickly waved down. Senior Zabeu! He called out to it, catching it's attention. I apologize senior Zabeu but I am in quite a hurry. Are you heading towards Glacies?

The zabeu nodded, indeed I am.

Would you be so kind as to give me a lift stranger? I will reward you handsomely for your troubles.

Taken back by his offer the zabeu hesitated, but responded, I don't see what it could hurt....

Thank you senior zabeu! Cuddles bowed to the zabeu as a sigh on respect and out of no where, materialized a red rose in his hand which he offered to the zabeu. The zabeu accepted, confused, before Cuddles climbed onto his back.

Andale Senior Zabeu! Cuddles lightly kicked at the sizes of the zabeu which began to gallop in response. With a few flaps of the zabeu's wings the two were in the air heading towards Glacies.

Arella started towards the direction of the mine shaft, wondering why on Earth she couldn’t simply just appear there as she did before. Apparently it was not something that would just happen at will, or if it did, there was a skill to it that she was yet to learn. The walk did give her time to think, and her mind drifted back to the letter. Help can be found if you need it. What could that mean? And how would she recognize the help if it was right in front of her? She cast her mind back to the Xephyr she bumped into moments ago – could that have been help, or was that just her carelessness? Should she head back to find out? No, that seemed silly – if it wasn’t the help she needed then surely it would be a time waste, and when someone’s life was in the balance, then every second counted.

With that in mind, she flapped her broken wings in an attempt to push herself along further; she knew the distance wasn’t far and if she were quick enough, she’d make it in plenty of time. As she neared the mine shaft location, it became quickly evident that she wasn’t the first here – from a distance she could make out the smooth red coat of another working on the mine. Arella’s heart skipped a beat; could it be? Was it her? That was the help she had been given? The one she had been searching for on this Earth since the Fall had come to her instead? But the excitement didn’t last; as she neared the mysterious person, it was quickly evident that this was not a fellow Jakrit. Arella felt a wave of sadness wash over her at the sudden disappointment, but pulled herself together. Just because it wasn’t her, didn’t mean it wasn’t the help.

Arella shyly approached the worker; it was evident she was evil like her, but this was a Ridix. She took in the unkempt hair, the serious expression, and was that..? Yes, a penguin plushie seated there beside them. She raised an eyebrow questioningly at this, but thought she’d leave that for another time. The Ridix was working hard, removing rocks that clearly blocked the entrance; their face was strained with the efforts and beads of sweat dripped down their face, but they were not giving up. Yes, this was definitely the help to which the letter referred, very much alive and from this world, unlike herself. She timidly approached the Ridix and hoped with all her heart they would be able to see her. She tapped the Ridix on the shoulder to get their attention, “Hi there, can I offer my help?”

Startled, Vicious dropped a pebble he had been working twenty minutes on to move. "Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."

He looked at the few pebbles he removed so far and sighed. "Well, we sure could use some help, but I'm not sure just you would be enough." He glanced at the Angelic Jakrit. "No offense. Not that you look weak or anything, it's just.. these rocks are frozen solid. It would be awesome if we had a flamethrower." He shot a hopeful glance to the Jakrit, but when they didn't respond he shrugged. "But I guess we're out of luck. Anyway, I'm Vicious, and this is my friend Penguin." He pointed his tail to the Evil Penguin Plushie still standing near the cave in. "We were hoping to clear the cave in for some money." And fame he added in his head, but kept that to himself.

Mizukii slung the pack over her shoulder and secured it in place. Not qualified am I? She’d show them. She’d bring back this Jacob person all by herself if she had to. Just before leaving the small storeroom she noticed a pick hanging on the wall. Maybe this might come in handy. Grabbing it firmly between her teeth she dashed into the cold heading straight for the mine.

It took her less time than she thought to reach the mines, and she wasn’t the only one arriving. The white rabbit! She watched from a distance while the familiar jakrit introduced herself to an unfamiliar ridix.

Mizukii pondered joining them, the angelic jakrit hadn’t seem to have much of a problem with her the first time they’d met, but she had been in somewhat of a hurry. Maybe she hadn’t gotten a good look at her; she wasn’t exactly a welcomed sight back in the Knollo Woods. She was too different.

The ridix, whose name she'd overheard was Vicious, was rather perturbed about not having a flamethrower… whatever that was. Deciding it couldn’t hurt to lend them a hand she gingerly stalked up behind them and dropped the pick at their feet. “Hi there!” Mizukii grinned when they both jumped.

A moment of recognition sparked in the jakrit’s eye and she smiled. “I thought maybe this might make things a little easier.” She picked up the pick and handed it to the ridix.

Vicious, not used to this many pets near the mountains, jumped up when a Space Xephyr approached him holding a pick.

I guess I'm not the only one who's after a reward... maybe I can find a way to ditch the others once they've helped me clear the cave in.

A smile that Vicious hoped looked genuine and friendly formed on his face.

"That's actually great, thanks a lot!" he looked at the Jakrit. "Would you mind starting? I'm beat from moving those rocks." He pointed at the short stack of pebbles he had removed from the cave in earlier.

And if they did most of the physical labor, then that would be a nice bonus.

Arella jumped, startled when the Space Xephyr suddenly spoke from behind them. Her eyes sparked with recognition: it's you! Before then remembering her head on collision and her cheeks flamed with embarassment. “Uhh, I am really s-sorry about earlier,” she stammered. She was however pleased at the prospect of additional help – to be honest, she wasn't sure how much help she could give. She was still new to living in this world having already passed over, and many things were yet to be experienced. Like, holding things. She nervously eyed up the pick the Xephyr was holding out to her; would she be yet another embarassment?

She pulled herself together and reached for the pick and her hand passed right thought it. Oh, no. She looked up at the Xephyr from beneath her eyelashes, grimaced and went even more red. “Let me try that again; I'm still trying to get the hang of this.” Concentrating as hard as she could, Arella reached once more for the pick. It did make sense that she do the heavy lifting. After all, it was impossible for her to tire, and she had no need to stop for nourishment. As her fingers wrapped around a solid object, she breathed a sigh of relief. Concentration was the key. “Alright, I've got this...” she said, though more to encourage herself than anything else.

Swinging the pick over her shoulder, she brought it down hard on the rocks, and with a satisfying 'ping!' metal met rock and the rock shifted. Yes! This was going to work! She swung again and again at the rocks, watching them slowly fall away in front of them and the dank, wet smell of the mines started filtering through. She smiled to herself, pleased that she could finally do something to help. She was tempted to see if she could simply pass through the rocks, as her hand did with the pick, but she was reluctant to try that in public; she'd already made a fool of herself enough. Not to mention, that would be of no help to these two. She glanced at them when she could chance it, eyeing up the people who were going to help her get to Jacob. Yes, they were pretty mismatched, but with their different areas of expertise, it just might work.

Cuddles enjoyed the ride on the back of the Zabeu. He could see everything from that height. Ah, how beautiful is this? You have it made being able to fly senior Zabeu. The Zabeu simply ignored him and kept flying.
Cuddle's eyes focused down on the Mineshafts and the three people down below. Ah, company! Well, this is my stop, thank you senior Zabeu! He said and with that, swung one leg over so both of them were one side and pushed off, startling the Zabeu who could only watch in horror as Cuddles began to fall from that height. Are you crazy? The Zabeu yelled out.

Cuddles did fall, and he landed right in the middle of the pebble pile, knocking a large majority of them loose with the force, causing a lot to trickle down the pile and some of the ice to crack and open up. Hello Amigos! He yelled out. It's my pleasure to meet you all. I am Senior Cuddles McFluffakins. I am here to rescue Jacob and I expect you all are here to do the same. He bowed to all three of them, then pulled three roses from what seemed like thin air and offered it to them.

I see we have a little bit of a problem here, the pebbles in the ice. Well, no worries1 I may have dislodged them really well when I fell on them. Cuddles jumped up and down a few times, hearing cracks every time he did, until finally the entire pile of pebbles broke and opened up at the top of the mine shafts. Ta-Da! A way in amigos! He smiled handsomely at them, stretching out his paws and wiggling his eyebrows proudly

Vicious hissed from surprise when Cuddles fell from the sky. Loud noises always put him on edge, since they never meant anything good back when he was still living on the streets. He's also never been a fan of other Ridix'.. too much competition.

His second instinct was to look for Penguin, who seemed to have fallen down the path from the impact. Anxious, Vicious ran down to retrieve the plushie who was now covered in snow. With glaring eyes that would've scared many he returned, plushie in mouth.

He was just about to jump the other Ridix, when he heard him say something about a Jacob.

Jacob... Jacob.. that sounds familiar. Where have I heard that name before?

Vicious tried to think back to all the books he's read. There was one book that mentioned him.. but which one?

Since the other two pets seemed to understand who and what that Cuddles Mcwhatever was talking about, Vicious was afraid to ask. He prided himself on his intelligence, after all.

I may not know who they're talking about, but someone seems to be trapped in there. That can only mean a bigger reward. Yes, things were definitely looking up.

"Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's head in!"

Arella cried out in shock as a bouyant pink Ridix came plummeting towards them and passed right through her. It was the strangest of feelings, and it left her stunned for a moment. Shaking her head to pull her thoughts together, she took in the newcomer and smiled with amusement as he pulled a rose from the air and handed it to her. It had been a while since anyone gave her any flowers; not since she had flowers laid at her grave by friends and family, and she wasn't sure that even counted. It did answer the question for her though – she could pass through people. To be honest, she wasn't sure she wanted to experience it again in a hurry.

It did make her life a whole lot easier with his abrupt arrival, for the Ridix had essentially created a route into the mine. And while the rock breaking hadn't caused her any strain, she could see the other two had become increasingly bored waiting. Though it wouldn't have hurt for them to help out, she muttered to herself. With the evil Ridix leading the way, she followed the team through the opening and into the dark mine below. “Did anyone think to bring any torches or kerosene lamps?” she asked of the others. It was the one thing she hadn't thought to bring with her supplies. As they made their way in, she found her eyes adjusting and could make out the shapes of the walls. The mine was old. Very old. “Watch yourself!” she called to the Ridix in front, “I don't know how well these walls will hold if we disturb the rocks too much.”

As they moved in further, it became evident that they were not alone. She could see many ghosts of previous miners and trapped people alike; drifting through the walls and moaning to themselves, seemingly unaware of their presence. The strangest thing of wall was their weight. Arella was not one to judge, she was aware of how her carrot-munching days had filled out her belly, but this was different; they'd clearly all over-eaten. Obesity was obviously rampant in miners at some stage, because this was just odd. She opened her mouth to ask the others, but then thought better of it. They obviously couldn't see them and it wouldn't do anyone any favours to scare them. She'd have to do her best to ignore these visitors as long as they ignored her group. Which hopefully wouldn't change any time soon.

Cuddles led the way and his eyes adjusted to the darkness. He searched himself until he pulled a glowstick from a random place he had previously hidden away. Ah, this may help a bit! He snapped the glow stick and held it in one hand as he drew his sword and held it in another just in case. You could never be too careful when walking into a place like this.

He waved to Arella as she warned of the dangers of the mines and he smiled. Don't worry Senorita, I will be fine. Cats have 9 lives! He slicked back the hair on the top of his head as he stopped to ponder for a brief moment.

So amigos, we are going to be stuck together for a while... why don't you tell me your names and a little more about yourselves. Also, do we have a skilled tracker among us? Mines like this have lots of path ways and it would be best if we had someone that knew what they were doing. Otherwise, we may be stuck together forever. Cuddles gave a light hearted laugh to the rather serious topic.

Lets hope when we find senior Jacob that he is alive and well.

“Oh!” Mizukii called when Cuddles asked for a roll call. “I’m Mizukii, but you guys can call me Miz, I guess I should have mentioned that earlier.” She blushed, but was thankful for darkness so the others wouldn’t notice.

The path they followed was narrow, and she took Arella’s warning to heart, careful not to get too close to the unsteady walls. While Cuddles safeguarded the front of their path she whispered instructions safely behind him. An involuntary shudder escaped her when she felt a chill creep up her spine. “Did anyone else feel that?” No one answered, but they were a bit preoccupied by Cuddles' finding.

The four travelers spread out when they entered the circular mine shaft. Mizukii quickly scanned the area, trying to plan their next move, while Vicious explained the tracks under them were all interconnected, and likely went to different areas around the mountains.

Most of the paths were blocked by fallen rocks, no doubt caused by the same thing that had caused the pileup outside the entrance to the mine. Only two were left open. One clearly led downwards, in the direction of the town, and Mizukii doubted they would find Jacob there.

The other path veered upwards and off to the left, disappeared from sight, clearly venturing deeper into the mountains. “That’s the way we need to go.” She motioned to the left path.

The other’s looked at her skeptically, but she was certain they’d find him somewhere along the path. The only question remained, what kind of state we’ll find him in. “Trust me.”

Vicious had put on a brave face. As a feline creature, he was lucky enough to be able to see well in what for others be darkness. But he didn't like it. Making sure Penguin was tucked in close to him, he followed the path that Mizukii had pointed them to. It led deeper into the mines. It was unfortunate that they had managed to bring along a tracker. That way he'd never be able to mislead them down a wrong path. Then again, it might also save all of their lives.

"I'm Vicious, by the way. You'll have trouble finding a better educated Ridix than me. I've read all the books in the world. There's little I don't know!" Except maybe who Jacob is..

As the path got steeper, Vicious found himself panting and sweating, two things he absolutely hated. His stomach also started growling. He had been on his way back to town when he found the cave in and hadn't eaten for hours.

"Couldn't this Jacob-guy have stayed closer to the entrance." Vicious muttered. It still bothered him that he couldn't remember who it was, especially since the rest of them clearly did. Time to go fishing. "So, Jacob really did it this time, eh? Getting himself caved in. That guy, always finding trouble.. What does he like to do again, except exploring caves and mines?"

Arella glanced up at Cuddles, grateful for something to take her mind off the wandering spirits, which were starting to make her rather uneasy. “I'm Arella,” she replied, trying to sound cheerful. “I was killed in an accident some time ago – come to think of it, I don't know how long ago it was...” She paused, lost in her thoughts as she tried to grasp just how long it'd been since The Fall. “I was supposed to be an Angel, but I seem to have made a mess of things. This is my chance to make it right. I know little about this Jacob. I was simply asked to find him, and then help him pass on should it be too late for him when we find him.” If she were honest with herself, she was pretty sure it would be too late. How long could someone stay down here where the air was dusty, and there was no light to be found? If Jacob hadn't intented to be long and didn't have any provisions with him, then things weren't looking too good.

Glancing at her other companions, Arella smiled up at the Xephyr. Even in the dark, the stars in Miz's coat still gave out a faint glow that made Arella feel peaceful. She walked alongside Miz in companionable silence for a bit, thinking how nice it would be to have a friend again. It'd been some time since she'd shared the company of anyone. She soon noticed though, that the Xephyr was starting to tire. Looking over at Vicious, he too was starting to look a bit worse for wear. There must be something she could do to help. That's it – she could scout ahead by passing through walls and see if there was anything to find – water, shelter or Jacob himself.

Putting on a brave face, she turned to the others: “I'm going to quickly scout ahead – cheat a little and go through the walls. Maybe I can find something that's of use to us.” Taking in a deep breath, and with a brow furrowed in concentration, she marched at the nearby walls. And passed right through on her first go. She couldn't help but feel a little proud of this, a small accomplishment though it was. Quickly she pressed on, and soon came to an open cavern with a small amount of light filtering through and could it be? Yes! Water! She rushed back to the group as quickly as she could. “Hurry all, you're but a few turns away from an open space. And best of all, there is an underground spring! That should brighten your spirits!”

The walk was starting to get to her, but still they pressed on. Mizukii could have wept with joy when Arella said there was water up ahead. They’d been traveling for what seemed like hours, and each of them was starting to tire, well, all of them except their angelic friend.

Mizukii headed straight for the spring when she saw it; the others following closely on her heels. The water was cool and refreshing, perfect to quench their thirst. Once she’d had her fill she sat down next to Arella. “We should take a short rest.” The others objected, but she insisted. “Finding Jacob is important, but we’ll be no use to anyone if we’re too exhausted to do anything.”

When it was finally settled that they would take a short break to collect themselves, and their immediate thirst had been forgotten, Mizukii noticed something else strange. Perhaps her growing hunger was getting to her, but she swore she could smell something sweet nearby.

“I smell sugar.” She looked to Vicious and wondered, “Just how far into the mountains have we traveled?”

Cuddles began to sniff at the air, walking around the edges of the area at the mention of sugar as the others talked. He stood at one wall, rubbing his chin while deep in thought. He ran his finger over it and then tasted it... "Hmm, sweet..." he thought to himself. It was rather odd indeed. Amigos, I don't think this is just any regular cave. I believe we may have stumbled upon something big and is possibly the reason Senior Jacob has not returned. From this point on, be on high alert. Danger could be lurking all around us.

Cuddles kept his sword tight in his hand. He wasn't about to let anyone hurt his new friends. He circled the area as the others drank the water and relaxed, regaining their strength and stamina. We must be pretty deep in at this point... We have walked quite a ways. I'm not sure how far Senior Jacob would have wandered but, we could be here a few days looking for him.

Cuddles cupped his hands together and dipped it into the water, then brought it to his lips and sipped. The remaining water he rubbed on his face as a little refresher. I do think we were under prepared for this amigos. I doubt any of us has any food. I know I didn't bring any. Cuddles sat again, rubbing his chin deep in thought as the others talked among themselves.

Vicious was only too happy to take a breather. His strolls through the mountains somewhat prepared him for this journey, but the air was too dusty and pressing to be comfortable. Luckily he did bring a canteen that he kept taking sips out of and then filling to the brim again.

"As long as we've got water we won't die. Starvation may be a horrible process, but it'll take weeks." He tried to comfort them, but wasn't sure if that did the trick. He was starting to feel a bit panicked himself. Starvation was not a new experience for him. His earliest memories consist of a cardboard box as a house and dinner only when he could steal it from somewhere. Which hadn't been often. He shuddered involentary.

While his sore legs were grateful for the rest, he felt uneasy. For some reason it looked less dark, though he couldn't quite figure out why, as Cuddles' glowsticks were slowly losing their power.

He took the time to wash himself and Penguin.

"I'm starting to think this was a mistake, Penguin," Vicious whispered to the plushie. "I promise to eat you last if it has to come to that."

A sudden but distant noise stopped him mid-grooming. He couldn't hear it very well over everyone's chatting, but he was sure it was coming from deeper into the cave.

"Guys!" he hissed, trying to concentrate where the noise was coming from. "Guys! Listen! Do you hear that?"

Arella watched with envy as the others took their fill of water. She did miss it sometimes, the simple luxuries – drinking, eating, sleeping. She couldn't help the feeling of anger pass through her at her life being taken so early. But there was no use carrying a grudge; she was in this position now and there was little she could do about it. Despite being unable to taste anything, she'd managed to retain her acute sense of smell. At Miz's mention of the smell of sugar, she wuffled her nose in the air and there was no doubt that was exactly what it smelled like. He mouth went dry at the memory of all things sweet that came flooding back to her. It was torture – she longed to taste the sweetness of a white chocolate sharshel, or once again experience the satisfying crunch of strawberry rock candy. What on Earth could cause such a smell?

As much as it made her want to rush forward and follow the smell, she kept Cuddles' warning of danger at the front of her mind. There was nothing that could happen to her, but she'd hate for anything to happen to her team. They'd quickly become the only friends she had, and there was no way she'd let them lose their life prematurely as well. Though, perhaps she wouldn't miss the penguin plushie so much. The way Vicious spoke to it was more than a little disconcerting. If it came down to it, she didn't want to see the lives of the others depend on the decision of a stuffed animal.

When Vicious suddenly told them to quieten because he heard something, Arella automatically froze. Just because she was dead, didn't mean she couldn't experience fear. She pricked first one, then the other ear and listened intently. There was no doubt she could hear something, and she wasn't sure it was a positive or negative sound – there was the definite murmur of persons – that much was clear. If Jacob was nearby, he could either see the ghosts and was conversing with them, or there were more people down here than anticipated. Could this be a whole group rescue? Arella's head hurt just to think about it. One person would be fine, but a group? She doubted her band of merry men would have the skills and supplies to bring out multiples of people. She listened once more, and pricked an eyebrow in surprise – there was no mistaking it – she could hear someone singing.

“Guys.” she said aloud, pointing in the direction of the sound, “I think we should head in the that direction. It's the best lead we've got.”

Cuddles stopped, cupping his hand to his ear and listening. Yes, indeed I do hear something? But... what is it? He went back to rubbing his chin, pondering. It sounds like it's coming from a little further down in the mine shafts. Maybe it's Senior Jacob trying to get help? Cuddles puffed up, placing a hand on his hip and raising his sword up. We will save you Senior Jacob, never fear!

Cuddles looked back at the others, then grinned handsomely. Well amigos, are you ready to do some rescuing? We shall find Senior Jacob and be out of here in no time. I promise you all a nice tea party when we get out. For someone so manly, Cuddles sure did love his tea parties. It was rather odd.

Cuddles lead the way by quite a margin, walking lightly on the tips of his toes to make sure not to make a sound in case there was danger lurking. If they were to be attacked, he could fight it off with the others being able to escape. Strangely, he noticed the deeper they went into the mines, the stronger the sugary scent got.

Miz could hardly believe her eyes when Cuddles motioned them forward. They’d let him take the lead, seeing as he was the only trained fighter amongst them. Several trapturs wearing armor and wielding weapons were gathered around something on the ground.

The object on the ground was radiating light, most unusual really. One of the guards moved to the side and Miz was able to make out an ice cube. One she’d never seen before. It looked like trees and the sun were trapped inside.

“It’s an ice cube!!” She whispered excitedly. She didn’t want to talk too loudly and gain their attention when they seem enraptured by the cube. They didn’t seem like the brightest bunch of trapturs, but they were carrying weapons, so she didn’t want to be careless.

But what are they guarding? She wondered. Several feet off to the side of them, a cave entrance took up half the wall. The sweet smell was undeniably coming from there and she was itching to get closer and find out what was hidden beyond.

Cuddles was focused on the trapturs. There was something different about these than the ones he had seen around town. He was pretty certain they were made of milk chocolate. It also looked like the armor they wore were made of white chocolate. Hey amigos! Cuddles motioned to the rest of the party, I'll distract them and you sneak in. Something important is being guarded and I have a suspicion Senior Jacob is in that room and can't get in.

Cuddles puffed up his chest as he placed his sword back in it's sheath, licked his paw, and slicked his hair back. He quickly adjusted his bow tie and grinned. Wish me luck amigos and good luck to you too!

Cuddles dashed out from their hiding spot and ran directly in front o the chocolate traptur guards. Quite a bold move on his part, but, he had a plan. Good evening ladies! he said in a low voice, then bowed to the trapturs. I am Senior Cuddles McFluffakins and I couldn't help but notice how.... Delicious you ladies are looking this evening.. Both of the trapturs giggled and blushed on response. Cuddles looked over at his fellow party members and winked as a sign it was safe.

As the party was sneaky past, Cuddles pulled roses out of thin air and handed them to the ladies, taking their clawed paws into his and kissing the back of them as he handed them the roses. He licked his lips to taste the chocolate and let out an "mmmm" noise. I have not seem such beautiful creatures before, tell me more about yourselves ladies.. Both I then giggled again and the party was safe, for now.
