I just ignore ads, and wouldn't mind them here, but I don't think my opinion counts. I don't experience the lag, so it won't make a difference to me. Everybody else...

I've seen nicely placed ads on other sites. There's even text based ads, and you could probably even make it blend in into the site.

So I'm going to point out the obvious here, there's PLENTY of white space on the current site layout. -------------------->

I think some ads would be ok. Just please don't overdo them like some sites. A few ads go a long way.

I understand your concern with "click fraud" but what I am imagining wouldn't be considered fraudulent...

Please, Click fraud is a real thing. Enticing users to click ads simply to generate revenue is considered fraud.

Click fraud is a type of fraud that occurs on the Internet in pay per click online advertising when a person, automated script or computer program imitates[1] a legitimate user of a web browser clicking on an ad, for the purpose of generating a charge per click without having actual interest in the target of the ad's link.

I kind have to have adblock because of the mobile broadband, its not as fast as home broadband and blocking ads really helps.

Also in the case of YT it saves some of my usage cause that site likes to eat it.

Um I know what click fraud is. I guess I should explain what I am picturing. It could be a redirection to a separate page where users "consider the ads below or skip" when they go to a certain page (example: a game). It would be up to the user to choose whether or not to click on an ad that interests them. A lot of other websites do this already. Obviously, I would click them myself and encourage other people to do it as well.

I'm not sure how iP rewards would play into it at this point, but considering all this would would need extra coding, I'm guessing that it's not an option right now anyway. It's just something to think about in the future.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm not sure if this will help but the majority of click fraud cases brought against individuals involve a program that generates hits because it's almost impossible to prove what an actual person's intention is when they click on an ad.

It's very likely they will end up doing banner ads anyway. smile_happy.gif

Don't be ashamed to have ads on the site, they can really help ease the expenses of keeping a website running.

I think the idea of some revenue is good, but I hate ads. And, on Neopets EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. You play begins with an ad. DON'T DO IT! That is the #1 reason I left that site!

I don't think those are the kinds of ads that would be on Icepets. o.o More like game ads and other things that pertain to Icepets-esque things.

The trouble with ads is they can overwhelm or overpower sites like Icepets. I've been on sites where every page has ads and they take up a huge chunk of the page (running down the right side). If there are to be ads, they need to be visible, just not, everywhere if that makes any sense.

I'm still brand new, but I believe a site cannot run on user funds alone. Ads are a necessary evil. If it helps the site succeed, go for it!

Some ads would be ok, some, not too many as it does take time to load each one. smile_meow.gif

I would say if you removed those icepets related ad banners up there^, replacing them with outside ads it wouldnt be too bad.

I think this would work alright. I mean, as long as I don't have like a billion ads on one page.. Just one small banner ad right there wouldn't bother me at all though. It's already there anyway, the only difference is that it wouldn't be an IcePets' banner anymore.

Yeah I'm still not sure why those IP banners are even there...

Even though I'm new, I still shall put my opinion. For the people who do not have ad-blockers and cannot install for some reason, only going through advertisement sites that have been checked for viruses and such would be the most ideal. I used to play Subeta, but kept getting viruses because of the ads they had, so I quit playing. (They are also rude there. Which is a subject I'm not going into. Icepet users are sweet. ^^, even though every place has a bad apple, which I have not seen. Sorry for this rant. smile_boring.gif) Anywho, not every user can use real money to support the site, so my personal opinion is go for it. Just please look into the advertisements before doing this. Thank you. c:

Good point Emily. There are plenty of people on here that want to support the site financially but are either too young or can't for whatever reason. Claws has said that the ads will most likely be for other petsites so I don't think we'll have to worry about viruses, etc.

I absolutely support having ads on here to help support the site. And to be honest, I think we need the help.

As long as the ads are unobtrusive and do not have sound (I startle very very easily, and its terribly stressful to be on a site when I'm always worried about an ad suddenly talking to me or playing music.) I only use ad blockers on sites with talking ads, to be honest (Or when I've played Neo where there are ads EVERYWHERE.)

I definitely support having ads, just low key ones. If they are for pet sites or other games, I will also most likely check them out n_n

I support the idea as well!

Even though the site may have a little lag, I suppose the way I see it is that the lag could be worse than it is. Not to mention that the ad's would help the site, help gain more money, and possibly help fund a future project to help fix the lag that there happens to be.

Not to mention that I do approve of it because in the future the gold memberships could have a feature that removes those ads, while also still having them around where sites could pay for them being on here.

I agree also with the others that as long as the ads are not anything with sound, that it shouldn't be to bad to have them around. Ad's are all over the internet, and after a while I'm sure most won't be to bothered by having them around when they are busy doing things across the site c:

Perhaps there are certain pages on the site that have the banners as opposed to having them all across? Since I know some probably find the problem being that they are all over and or on every page. So perhaps having them on certain portions of the site that have a little more activity might prove more beneficial to both the users, the site, and then also still bring in some revenue.

Edit: I also think that perhaps having a limit to how many are on specific pages would also be useful. I know a few sites where there is one at the top, and two at the bottom, and that can become a bit of a hassle even though it may bring in a little revenue. So perhaps limiting it to one, or perhaps two small ones at the bottom of certain pages might be a better way to go. And that they can just change based on how many perhaps are interested in active advertising.
