How many of you have felt an earthquake before?
The reason I'm asking is because Christchurch in NZ experienced a massive earthquake this morning. 7.4 on the Richter scale. Buildings collapsed, etc.

I live well away from that, so I felt nothing, but there's been shakes all over NZ from it!

Living in England we rarely get earthquakes. I can only remember us having 2 very minor ones, both of which I slept through smile_grin.gif I think I could probably sleep through the end of the world xD

I've never felt one. There has been one earthquake in Denmark, where I live, in my lifetime (I think. At least only one that could be felt by humans) but it was in a different part of the country, and the centre of the earthquake was a good distance out in the north sea.

Being in CA, we get them pretty often! The last one was three/four weeks ago. For a while, though, somewhere in a months span we had two or three earthquakes. It was pretty weird, because we haven't had any in a while (at least in my area) then to suddenly get a ton at once was weird.

When I lived in Japan I felt earthquakes nearly every day. They were all between 4-7.0 but when you live on the third floor, the building sways and shakes even with little earthquakes. I think they're very exciting so long as no one gets hurt.

That does sound pretty exciting, xanatha. Never had the chance to experience an earthquake. Here in WI, earthquakes never happen. Tornadoes are the common natural disaster here.

Sounds like I'm missing out on all the fun. I've never experienced an earthquake or a tornado. (Which I'm actually thankful for!) The worst we get in Maine, are wayward hurricanes, once every 15 years or so, and the occasional Nor'Easter...the equivalent of a winter Tropical Storm, that will dump 2 feet of snow overnight.
